Manchester based leather supplier, Sabah International Leatherwear Limited, successfully sued PICC Property and Casualty Company Limited, a Chinese Insurer, for $50,000 under a marine insurance policy.
Lopian Wagner, Manchester Lawyers who specialise in recovering losses for clients in respect of repudiated insurance claims dealt with the matter on behalf of Sabah.
Lucy Holland, a member of Lopian Wagner’s Commercial Litigation Insurance Team commented “the client came to see us a few months ago with regard to the loss which occurred in September 2004! Our client was frustrated with the behaviour of the Chinese Insurers and the English Brokers. Fortunately, we obtained fairly immediate results by taking an aggressive but measured approach. Obviously, litigation of this nature is difficult bearing in mind that the Defendant was a Chinese Insurer and the claim was in fact for goods stolen during transit from China to Manchester having been insured by the shipper, not by our client.”
Lopian Wagner have acted on a number of very substantial insurance claims over the last five years and have obtained repayment of repudiated claims in excess of £8m.
